Canva Programmatic SEO: How 105,135 Template Pages Drive Over 142M Monthly Organic Visits

Canva

Summary

Canva programmatic SEO turns 1 template library into 105,135 sitemap URLs across 109 locales, earning about 25.9 million estimated monthly organic visits from Google US and roughly 142 million across 8 country databases (Semrush estimate, September 2026). This independent teardown breaks down Canva’s 4 page templates, the data points on each, why its templated pages win head terms rather than only the long tail, and what SaaS teams can copy.

Canva programmatic SEO is the example every pSEO deck opens with: a page for every design format, a page for every template category, and another page for every style or job role someone might add to the search. The page count is real. The traffic number most teardowns quote, including our own earlier version, needs an update.

Canva.com earns about 25.9 million estimated monthly organic visits from Google in the US (Semrush estimate, September 2026). The 100M+ headline is a worldwide figure, and it still holds when you add the other big markets. This teardown is independent. Canva isn’t an upGrowth client, so every template detail below is something we observed on canva.com pages in September 2026.

Canva Programmatic SEO: The Short Answer

Canva programmatic SEO builds pages from its own template catalog using 4 repeating patterns: tool pages, category template pages, modifier pages and search collection pages. Its sitemaps list 105,135 URLs, 99,328 of them localized. Unlike most programmatic sites, Canva’s templated pages win head terms, not just the long tail.

Canva programmatic SEO numbers: 25.9M US organic visits, 1.6M keywords, 105,135 sitemap URLs, 2,884 template pages

Semrush counts about 1.6 million ranking keywords for canva.com in its US database, 271,098 of them in positions 1 to 3. Treat these as estimates, not Canva’s analytics. The homepage alone takes about 6.97 million of those visits, roughly 27%.

How Much Organic Traffic Canva Really Gets

Semrush estimates about 25.9 million monthly organic visits for canva.com from Google US. Add 7 more large country databases and the total passes 142 million, which is where the 100M+ figure comes from (Semrush estimate, September 2026).

The US number, and why it moved

Semrush’s September snapshot of 25.9 million sits below its own monthly aggregates for January to August 2026, which ran between about 36.6 million (May) and about 39.7 million (April). Its keyword count for canva.com also fell from about 4.8 million in January 2026 to about 1.6 million now, so part of the drop is a change in Semrush’s database rather than in Canva’s rankings. We report the most recent snapshot and label it.

Where the rest of the traffic sits

Canva is bigger outside the US than inside it. Semrush’s country databases put India at about 25.7 million estimated monthly organic visits, Indonesia at 24.3 million, Brazil at 22.3 million, Mexico at 15.8 million, Thailand at 11.6 million, Spain at 11.4 million and France at 5.5 million. Those 7 plus the US come to roughly 142 million, and Semrush tracks canva.com in more than 100 other databases.

The blog is not the engine here

This is where Canva differs from most programmatic sites. Its /learn/ blog earns about 308,942 estimated monthly US visits from 71,363 keywords, about 1% of the total. The /create/ folder earns about 2.92 million from 214,418 keywords and the /templates/ folder about 1.22 million from 137,076 keywords. Templates carry the site, not editorial. Our Zapier programmatic SEO teardown shows the opposite split.

What we removed from the earlier version

The old article reported a traffic channel split of 71.19% direct and 17.36% organic search. That came from Semrush Traffic Analytics, which isn’t on our current plan, so we couldn’t re-pull it and we took it out. The “190k indexed pages” claim is gone too, replaced by a sitemap count we could check ourselves.

The 4 Canva Programmatic SEO Page Templates

Canva runs 4 repeating page templates on top of 1 dataset: its template library. Every page is a keyword-led H1, a “create a blank” CTA, a gallery of real designs, filter links to sibling pages and a short description block. The sitemap lists 2,884 English versions of these.

1. Tool and maker pages: “Free {tool} maker”

These target people who want to make something, not browse. The logo maker page has the title “Logo Maker | Create Free Logos in Minutes | Canva”, the H1 “Free logo maker” and the CTA “Start designing a custom logo”. Below that sit a how-to section, a tutorial video, 3 FAQs, an “Explore more logo resources” block and a breadcrumb reading Home > Logos > Create Logos. It ranks #1 in the US for “logo” (135,000 monthly searches).

2. Category template pages: “{Category} templates”

The resume templates page carries the H1 “Resume templates”, the title “Free printable resume templates you can customize | Canva” and the CTA “Create a blank Resume”. It shows 50 designs out of 20,142 and a breadcrumb of Home > Resumes > Resume templates. It ranks #1 for “resume templates”, a query Semrush sizes at 673,000 monthly US searches.

3. Modifier pages: “{Modifier} {category}”

This is the layer that produces the page count. The real estate business cards page uses the H1 “Real estate business cards”, the title “Free custom printable real estate business cards | Canva” and the CTA “Create a blank Real Estate Business Card”. Its breadcrumb adds a level: Home > Business Cards > Business card templates > Real Estate. The “Explore more” block links to 70+ sibling modifiers such as Photography, Yoga, Fitness, Corporate and Luxury.

Modifiers come in 2 flavours that overlap: job role or industry (real estate, barber, nail art, cleaning, teacher) and style or use case (minimalist, QR code, diploma, appreciation). Canva multiplies 1 category by both lists.

4. Search collection pages: /templates/s/{topic}/

The 978 collection pages are the odd ones. They look like saved searches, and some of them are the site’s biggest wins. The FAQ templates collection earns about 227,352 estimated monthly visits from just 173 keywords because it ranks #1 for “faq templates”, which Semrush sizes at 1,830,000 monthly searches. The budget collection earns about 40,775 from 4,686 keywords.

Head Terms vs the Long Tail on Canva’s Template Pages

Canva’s category pages win big head terms, while its modifier pages rarely clear 3 figures. The template system is worth building for the head terms; the modifier layer is insurance that covers every variation of them.

Canva programmatic SEO comparison of the resume templates category page and the real estate business cards modifier page

The resume templates page earns about 315,119 estimated monthly visits from 8,804 keywords. The real estate business cards page earns about 212 from 129. Its best query, “real estate business cards ideas”, has 590 monthly searches and sends about 14 visits at position 5. Neither page is a failure. They do different jobs.

The pattern repeats across categories. Certificate templates earns about 18,878 estimated visits, and its modifier pages sit far below: diploma 3,816, award 3,179, completion 3,063, appreciation 2,598. Business card templates earns about 18,769, with QR code at 1,152 and car detailing at 758. This is what long-tail keywords look like at the page level once you stop averaging.

Our earlier version reported 179k monthly visits for the logo maker page, 71k for the resume builder and 74k for the photo collage maker. Semrush now estimates 310,605, 388,807 and 148,992. Going the other way, resume templates rose from the 83k we reported to 315,119, while certificate templates fell from 51k to 18,878 and business card templates from 38k to 18,769.

How Canva Multiplies Every Template Across 109 Locales

Canva doesn’t just translate the words on a template page. It translates the URL slug too, then republishes the whole matrix. 99,328 of the 105,135 URLs in its sitemaps sit under a locale folder, spread across 109 locales.

  • Locale folder: /fr_fr/, /pt_br/, /ja_jp/, /id_id/, /ko_kr/ and 104 more. Japanese leads the sitemap with 7,876 URLs, ahead of Indonesian (5,065) and Brazilian Portuguese (4,451).
  • Translated slugs: “templates” becomes modeles in French, plantillas in Spanish, modelos in Portuguese, sjablonen in Dutch, sablonlar in Turkish and contoh in Indonesian.
  • Fully local pages: the French poster templates page reads “Affiches gratuites : + de 4700 modèles personnalisables | Canva” with the H1 “Modèles d’affiches gratuites”, and its template names, filters and breadcrumb are all in French.
  • Local scale, not local scraps: that 1 French page earns about 1,300 estimated monthly visits from 405 keywords, and canva.com earns about 5.5 million across the French database.

If you want the method behind this rather than the scoreboard, our guide to expanding global reach with international SEO covers hreflang, market selection and the content depth each locale needs.

What Canva Programmatic SEO Teaches You to Copy

Copy the dataset logic, not the page count. Canva can publish 105,135 URLs because every one of them is backed by real designs a user can open and edit. Without that inventory, the same template structure is just thin pages.

Checklist for copying Canva programmatic SEO: inventory, head terms, modifiers, real content, internal links, localization

Start from inventory you already own

Canva’s pages are a view onto its template library. Nothing is written for SEO; the page assembles designs that already exist. If your product data is thinner, our guide to finding programmatic SEO datasets is the place to start.

Aim the top layer at head terms

Most programmatic advice says templates are for the long tail. Canva shows the opposite is possible when the template genuinely answers the query. “Resume templates” and “logo” are head terms, and a templated page owns both. Pick categories where a gallery is the best possible answer.

Build the modifier layer second

Job role, industry and style modifiers turn 215 category pages into 2,486 more. Each earns little on its own, and together they cover the variations your category page can’t rank for. Check for duplicate content in programmatic SEO before you ship them, because modifier pages that share a gallery are the easiest way to create it.

Keep thin combinations off the site

Google’s spam policies define scaled content abuse as “when many pages are generated for the primary purpose of manipulating search rankings and not helping users”. A modifier page with no designs behind it is exactly that. Read our list of common programmatic SEO mistakes before you scale the matrix.

Link the matrix with breadcrumbs

Every Canva template page carries a breadcrumb that climbs back to the category hub, and every page links sideways to its siblings through “Explore more”. That is standard website architecture for a large library: a hub at the top, modifiers underneath, nothing orphaned.

Key Takeaways From Canva’s Programmatic SEO

Canva shows that a template system can be the main organic engine of a business, as long as every page is backed by inventory a user actually wants.

  • 4 page templates: tool pages, category template pages, modifier pages and search collection pages, 2,884 English versions in the sitemap.
  • Template-led traffic: the /learn/ blog is about 1% of canva.com’s estimated US organic visits, while /create/ and /templates/ together are closer to 16% (Semrush estimate, September 2026).
  • Head terms, not just tail: templated pages rank #1 for “resume templates”, “logo” and “faq templates”.
  • Localization is the multiplier: 99,328 of 105,135 sitemap URLs sit under 1 of 109 locale folders, with translated slugs.

Canva Programmatic SEO FAQs

What is Canva programmatic SEO?

Canva’s programmatic SEO is the system it uses to turn its own template library into search pages. It runs 4 repeating patterns: tool pages such as the free logo maker, category template pages such as resume templates, modifier pages such as real estate business cards, and search collection pages under /templates/s/. Its sitemaps listed 105,135 URLs when we counted them in September 2026.

How much organic traffic does Canva get?

Semrush estimates about 25.9 million monthly organic visits to canva.com from Google in the US (Semrush estimate, September 2026). The 100M+ figure people quote is worldwide. Add India at about 25.7 million, Indonesia 24.3 million, Brazil 22.3 million, Mexico 15.8 million, Thailand 11.6 million, Spain 11.4 million and France 5.5 million, and those 8 databases alone reach roughly 142 million.

How many pages does Canva have?

Canva’s sitemap index pointed to 3 sitemap files holding 105,135 URLs in total when we counted them in September 2026. Of those, 99,328 sit under 1 of 109 locale folders and 5,807 are the English versions. The English set includes 183 tool and category hubs, 215 category template pages, 2,486 modifier pages and 978 search collection pages.

Does Canva’s programmatic SEO target long-tail keywords?

Both, and that is what makes it unusual. Canva’s category template pages rank #1 in the US for head terms such as resume templates (673,000 monthly searches) and logo (135,000). The modifier pages underneath handle the tail: the real estate business cards page earns about 212 estimated monthly visits from 129 keywords. The head terms carry the traffic, the modifiers cover the variations.

How does Canva handle international programmatic SEO?

Canva republishes its whole template matrix per locale and translates the URL slug, not just the copy. Templates becomes modeles in French, plantillas in Spanish and contoh in Indonesian. The French poster templates page is entirely in French, down to template names and filters, and carries its own breadcrumb. Localized URLs make up 99,328 of the 105,135 in Canva’s sitemaps.

What can SaaS teams copy from Canva programmatic SEO?

Build templates on inventory your product already holds, then aim the top layer at head terms a gallery genuinely answers rather than assuming templates are only for the tail. Add a modifier layer for job roles, industries and styles, link everything with breadcrumbs and sibling links, and drop any combination you can’t fill with real content.

Your Next Move: Find Your Own Template Matrix

Write down your categories and your modifiers before you write a single page. If you can list 20 categories and 30 modifiers that people genuinely search for, and you have real inventory behind each combination, you have a matrix. If you can only fill half the cells, you have a content plan instead.
