The Claude Spotify integration is official now. Anthropic added Spotify to its connector directory on 23 April 2026, so you no longer need a custom setup. Ask for a song, an album or a podcast, and Claude finds it and plays it in Spotify.

What Is the Claude Spotify Integration?

The Claude Spotify integration is an official connector, launched 23 April 2026, that lets Claude search Spotify, recommend music and podcasts, play them in Spotify and switch playback between your devices. It costs nothing extra on Free, Pro and Max plans. Spotify Premium listeners also get playlists built from a described vibe.

Anthropic’s Spotify connector page sets out what you get: “Ask for songs, artists, albums, or playlists and play them in Spotify. Find podcasts for any topic you are exploring.” It also covers device handoff, so you can switch where the music plays without leaving the chat.

Spotify’s own announcement that day confirmed the reach: “Spotify in Claude is available now globally, for Free, Pro, and Max Claude users on web, mobile (iOS and Android), and desktop.” Mood-based playlist creation is the one feature held back for Premium subscribers.

What changed since 2025

The status changed, and it’s worth saying plainly. Claude’s connectors launched in 2025, but Spotify wasn’t one of them. Spotify arrived on 23 April 2026 in a batch of 15 everyday-life connectors that also included Audible, Uber, Instacart and Booking.com. Anything set up before that date ran through a custom connector built on remote MCP, not this one. Our explainer on MCP and Claude connectors covers the difference.

The plan requirement changed too. This post used to say Connectors were limited to Pro and Team. Anthropic now states that “connectors are available on all plans, with mobile in beta.”

How to Connect Spotify to Claude

Sign in to Claude, open Customize in the left sidebar, go to the Connectors tab, click the + button and choose Browse connectors. Find Spotify, click Connect and authorize your Spotify account. Setup takes about a minute, and you revoke access from the same screen.

1. Sign in to Claude on web or the desktop app.
2. Click Customize in the left sidebar, then open the Connectors tab.
3. Click the + button and choose Browse connectors to open the directory.
4. Find Spotify and click Connect.
5. Sign in to Spotify and approve the access Claude asks for.
6. Go back to the chat. Spotify is now a tool Claude can use when you ask.

Which plans and accounts you need

You need a Claude account on Free, Pro or Max, plus a Spotify account. A free Spotify account covers recommendations, previews and playback. Premium adds vibe-to-playlist. The connector itself carries no separate charge.

How to limit or revoke access

Consent stays with you. Anthropic states that Claude “inherits each person’s permissions from the connected service,” so the connector can’t reach anything your own account can’t. Disconnect from Customize and then Connectors whenever you want. Data from a connected app “isn’t used to train our models.”

What the Claude Spotify Connector Can and Can’t Do

It searches, recommends, plays, saves and moves playback between devices, and it builds vibe-based playlists for Premium listeners. It doesn’t listen to audio, match tempo to your workout, cue timed transitions or start playlists on a schedule by itself.

That gap matters. Plenty of early write-ups, this one included, described behavior nobody had verified. Claude works through Spotify’s supported actions. It doesn’t hear the track.

• Supported: search, recommend, preview, save, play, and switch the playing device.
• Premium only: describe a vibe and get a personalized playlist made to match.
• Not supported: tempo matching, timed segment cueing, self-starting daily playlists, or analysis of chart data and lyrics.

Prompts That Work With the Claude Spotify Integration

Ask in plain language for the music, podcast or mood you want, and name a device if you are moving between them. Every prompt below stays inside what the connector actually supports.

Daily flow and commute

“Play something energizing but not too loud for my morning routine.” Claude picks tracks that fit and starts them in Spotify. Follow with “move this to my phone” and it hands playback to that device.

Focus and deep work

“I am writing for 2 hours. Play ambient instrumental music with no lyrics.” Claude searches for instrumental options and plays one. On Premium, try “make me a playlist that feels like a rainy Sunday in a bookshop” and you get a playlist built to that description.

Workouts and podcast discovery

“Play a high-energy playlist for a strength session.” Claude finds and starts one, though it will not segment the session for you. “Find me a podcast about behavioral economics and save the best episode for later” uses search and save together.

What Connector Listings Mean for Brands

A connector turns your product into something an assistant can operate, not just a link it recommends. Anthropic listed 816 connectors on its directory in September 2026, and says placement is never sold, so usefulness decides what surfaces.

Your product becomes an action

Spotify in Claude is the clearest example available. The user never opens the app to start the task. That changes what a brand optimizes for: clear actions, clean metadata and permissions people accept in a click.

Placement is not for sale

Anthropic is explicit: “Claude is ad-free and will stay that way. There are no paid placements or sponsored answers in conversations with Claude.” With 816 options in the connector directory, ranking is earned, not bought.
