Google Connected Apps let users finish tasks inside AI Mode in Search and the Gemini app, but as of 7 November 2026 Search connected apps are US-only and no Indian learning platform is listed in Gemini. Google Classroom already works in Gemini for work or school accounts aged 18 or over, which shows how age and account rules will shape edtech. This guide covers what Indian edtech companies could expose to learners and parents first, a readiness checklist and what to measure.

An Indian parent can already ask Gemini to make a Hindi study poster in Canva. That parent can’t ask Gemini what their child scored in last Sunday’s mock test, because no Indian learning platform has put that data inside Gemini yet. Google Classroom has, but only for work or school accounts held by people aged 18 or over.
That gap is the opening for Google Connected Apps for edtech. On 28 October 2026 Google opened a preview of its Connected Apps Platform, where a company registers 1 integration and lets users finish tasks inside AI Mode in Search and the Gemini app. Our pillar guide to Google Connected Apps in India covers the platform. This post goes deeper on education, the 6th and final sector in our series.
Edtech is the hardest sector in the series, and not because of the technology. The person who pays is often not the person who learns, many learners are minors, and the account that holds the progress data is the real asset. At upGrowth Digital we work on how brands show up in AI answers, and this is the layer that comes after the answer.
Below: what is live today, why the learner account is the asset, how age rules limit what you can build, and what to expose and measure first.
Not in Search, and only partly in Gemini. As of 7 November 2026, connected apps in Search still run only in AI Mode in the US, in English, and no Indian learning platform appears in Gemini’s connected apps list.

Google’s Search help page for connected apps still says: “This feature is currently available in AI Mode in the US, in English.” It lists the same 5 apps we reported on 29 October: Instacart, Canva, YouTube Music, Yahoo Fantasy Football and Sleeper Fantasy Football. We rechecked it on 7 November 2026 and found no India change.
Google’s Gemini connected apps availability table has no dedicated Indian edtech app. The closest analogues each carry different rules:
The only India-only app we confirmed in that table on 7 November is Urban Company, in English.
Google’s launch post says it will add more developers, markets and Google products over the coming months, without dates. Our reading: Indian edtech should design for Gemini now and treat Search in India as a later event. That’s our inference, not a Google statement.

The learner account holds what an assistant can’t generate on its own: schedules, scores, practice history and progress over time. Course content is getting cheaper to serve, while a learner’s own record stays unique to the platform that holds it.
Gemini can explain a chemistry concept without any edtech app. It can’t tell a student which 3 chapters they scored lowest on in the last 4 mock tests. Only the platform that ran those tests can. In our view, that private record is what makes Google Connected Apps for edtech worth building.
Our Growth Moves 2026 EdTech edition tracked 14 moves by Indian edtech companies. We name the companies below because Growth Moves covers them. We are not claiming that any of them is building a Google connected app.
Each move pulls the learner into an app the company owns. Our reading: that linked account is what an assistant will need from you.
In Indian K-12 and test prep, the parent often pays and tracks progress. The same edition notes that parents and students now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini which course or coaching centre to choose. A connected app that answers “how is my child doing this week” serves the buyer.

Age and account type decide who can link your app at all. Google Search leaves the age rule to each connected app’s own account requirement, and 3 of the 4 education-adjacent Gemini apps we checked are for ages 18 or over.

Google Classroom in Gemini works only on work or school accounts, and the availability table lists the age as 18 or over, as designated by the administrator. Our reading: Google kept its own education app to adult accounts that an institution controls. Indian platforms serving school students should expect the same caution when their apps go to review.
The Search help page says age limits are set by the connected app’s own account age requirement, and that many apps also need a linked account with that service. Our reading: your existing account rules carry straight into Search. If your terms say learners under 18 need a guardian, the guardian is who links.
Our view of who links, by segment (upGrowth view, not a Google rule):
The Connected Apps Platform policy we read on 7 November has no section we could find on apps aimed at children. It bans features that spoof academic credentials, requires age-gating for categories such as alcohol and real-money gaming, and requires data minimisation: apps “must exchange the minimum data necessary”. We think a K-12 app should apply stricter scoping than the policy demands.
Start with read-only tasks that a learner or parent repeats every week: class schedules, test dates, progress summaries and the next practice set. Leave payments, refunds and enrolment changes for later versions.
| EdTech task | Live analogue (verified 7 Nov 2026) | What Indian edtech could expose | upGrowth view |
|---|---|---|---|
| Check class schedules and deadlines | Google Classroom in Gemini (work or school accounts, 18+, English) | Batch timetable, live class links, mock-test dates | Best first task. Read-only, user-delegated OAuth |
| Turn study material into notes | Gemini Notebook (personal accounts, 18+) | Chapter summaries and saved doubts from your own content | Adult learners first. Never pull chat history |
| Make study visuals in Hindi | Canva in Gemini (personal accounts, 13+, Hindi supported) | Practice sets and revision cards in Hindi and regional languages | Language reach matters as much as features |
| Browse or publish a course page | Wix in Gemini (personal accounts, 18+, Hindi supported) | Course catalogue, demo-class slots, centre locations | Public catalogue can run with no auth |
| Weekly progress for a parent | No live edtech analogue in Gemini on 7 Nov 2026 | Scores, attendance and weak topics for the linked parent account | Highest value, strictest scoping |
This is the Classroom pattern applied to coaching batches. “When is my next physics class” is frequent and low-risk. Mark these tools read-only, as Google’s MCP guide recommends for tools that don’t change state.
A learner asking “which chapters should I revise before Sunday’s test” needs scores the platform holds. Return a short summary, not the full test history. For school-age learners, send it to the linked parent account.
An app like Cuemath, which the Growth Moves edition says splits algorithms for path-mapping from human coaches, could expose “start my next practice set” as a tool. Our reading: practice sessions started from Gemini keep the learner in your loop, while free answers from the assistant don’t.
Canva and Wix already support Hindi in Gemini. Connected Console lets you add translated listing text with language tags, according to Google’s registration guide. For a multilingual platform like SpeakX, the listing language is a growth decision.

Before applying to the preview, an edtech team needs a short task list, an auth model per task, a data-minimisation rule for minors and a complete listing. Google Connected Console checks most of these at registration.

The prerequisites page asks for at least 3 capabilities and at least 3 example prompts, with at least 2 prompts starting with your app name. Pick tasks a learner or parent repeats weekly. A category is chosen once and can’t be changed later.
Google’s registration guide offers 3 options:
Our recommendation: most learner and parent tasks need user-delegated OAuth, so build test accounts that look like a real student’s term, including a weak subject.
The policy bars apps from requesting or steering the model to share conversation history. Each tool can request extra context such as locale or location, and the registration guide cautions to request only what is clearly needed. For school learners, our rule is simple: return grades and schedules, never names of classmates, contact details or free-text teacher notes.
No third-party ads, no descriptions written to steer the model toward you, tools declared up front, and confirmation for irreversible actions such as cancelling an enrolment. Test every tool in MCP Inspector and Gemini Developer Mode first, as the MCP server guide suggests.
Measure linked accounts and completed tasks next to sessions, and track whether parents or learners hold the links. Google Connected Console reports traffic, latency and error rates for the app itself.

The last number matters before launch. A parent who never hears your name in an AI answer won’t link your app. Our free AI Answer Gap tool shows which brands AI engines name for your buyers’ questions today.
Partly. As of 7 November 2026, connected apps in Google Search work only in AI Mode in the US, in English. Gemini already has India-only connected apps such as Urban Company, but no Indian learning platform in its list. Edtech companies can apply to the preview, register in Google Connected Console and choose the countries and languages to launch in.
Google Classroom in Gemini works only with a work or school Google Account. Google’s Gemini availability table lists the age as 18 or over, as designated by the administrator, and the language as English only. Our reading: that rules out most school students, so Indian K-12 platforms should expect parents, not learners, to hold the linked account.
Start with read-only tasks learners or parents repeat weekly: class schedules, test dates, progress summaries and the next practice set. These need user-delegated OAuth and, in our view, carry little risk. Google asks for at least 3 capabilities and 3 example prompts at registration. Leave payments, refunds and enrolment changes for later versions, with user confirmation turned on.
Some do. In Google’s Gemini availability table, Canva and Wix list Hindi among 5 supported languages, alongside English, French, Indonesian and Portuguese. Connected apps in Search remain English only and US only. Developers can add translated listing text in Google Connected Console using language tags, which matters for edtech platforms teaching in Indian languages.
GEO decides whether AI answers name your platform when parents ask which course or coaching centre to choose, before anyone links an app. Connected apps decide what happens after they pick you. upGrowth helped Vance become the authoritative answer in Google AI Overviews for IMPS, UTR and payment tracking queries, with a 7x increase in ranking power.
Google Connected Apps for edtech will reward the platforms whose learners and parents already trust them with progress data. Our inference, not a Google statement: the age and account rules make the likely first winners adult upskilling platforms and parent-facing K-12 apps that scope their data tightly.
upGrowth runs GEO programmes that get brands named in AI answers, which is where a parent’s shortlist now starts. For Vance, that work produced a 7x increase in ranking power in Google AI Overviews (Vance case study). If you want a view on which learner tasks to expose first and how your brand shows up in AI answers today, start with a conversation.
