Citation Share. This is your north star. It’s the percentage of relevant AI answers that cite at least one of your pages. If you run 20 manual queries across your target keywords and your brand appears in 12 of the AI answers, your citation share is 60%.
Citation share is different from citation count. A single answer might cite you three times, but it still counts as one citation. What matters is the breadth of answers where you appear, not the frequency within each answer.

Warning: Some traffic from AI platforms arrives without referrer data. You’ll see it as direct traffic. You can’t eliminate this completely, but clean UTMs on your AI-cited pages will help.
