Growth Moves 2026 · SaaS edition · Research by upGrowth
Indian SaaS companies grew in 2026 by selling work that gets done, not software that records work. We tracked 14 dated, sourced moves from January to September 2026 and found growth coming from four places.
Indian SaaS companies grew in 2026 by selling work that gets done, not software that records work. Across 14 moves we tracked between January and September 2026, the strongest pattern was products that execute: Rocketlane’s Nitro completes billable delivery tasks, Sprinto’s agents run compliance work, Atomicwork and Ema sell AI coworkers with job roles, and Darwinbox rebuilt its HR platform around AI from the ground up.
The large players picked their battlegrounds. Freshworks told investors it is an “EX-first company” and put a per-session price on AI agents. Zoho walked into vertical SaaS with 7 industry apps and one conversational interface across its suite. Four companies bought capability instead of building it, and Emergent and Exotel took their products to a new screen and a new region.
Growth Moves is a research series by upGrowth. It does not rank leaders or companies. Each edition documents specific moves, the people credited with them, and what they reveal about where growth is coming from next. Six companies in this edition (Postman, Rocketlane, TrueFoundry, Atomicwork, Ema and Facilio) are headquartered in the US and were founded by Indian entrepreneurs; we describe them as India-founded.
Jump to a move:
A Growth Move is a dated, sourced change that alters how a company acquires, monetises, retains or serves customers. We counted four kinds of change.
The three tests every move passed. It was announced between 1 January and 30 September 2026. It is documented in a primary or reputable source, linked under each move. The named leader is quoted or explicitly credited in that source. Funding rounds, hires and awards on their own did not qualify. No company paid for inclusion.

Zoho and Freshworks are two of India’s best-known SaaS companies, and both sharpened their story in 2026. Freshworks named employee experience its growth engine and started pricing AI agents per session. Zoho went the other way on breadth but the same way on focus: 7 industry-specific apps, all sitting under one AI interface called Zia Chat.
The growth logic: a platform with dozens of apps can’t market dozens of stories. Picking the segment or industry where AI spend is moving gives sales one message and the product team one roadmap.
Six companies shipped products whose pitch is execution, not visibility. Rocketlane’s Nitro completes migrations and documentation inside project plans. Sprinto’s Autonomous Trust Platform runs compliance work with agents. Atomicwork and Ema sell AI coworkers for IT, HR and finance. Facilio’s agents run facilities back offices, and Darwinbox rebuilt its HCM platform as AI-native.
The growth logic: when software does the work, the buyer compares it with headcount, not with another tool. That moves the price anchor from a seat licence to a salary line.
Postman bought Fern for API docs and SDKs. MoEngage bought Aampe for per-user AI decisioning. TrueFoundry bought UK-based Seldon to bring traditional ML customers onto its AI Gateway. Nurix AI bought Verloop.io to add chat to voice, then renamed itself NuPlay AI.
The growth logic: an acquisition buys a missing product and its customers in one transaction. For a company that already owns distribution, plugging in a proven product is faster than a long build.
Emergent took app building to the phone, with spoken ideas turned into apps published to the App Store and Google Play, the same day it said it had reached USD 100M in ARR. Exotel took a new agentic CX platform, Harmony, to the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
The growth logic: a product that works in one place often has a second market waiting on a different screen or in a different region. Expansion of this kind reuses the core product and adds a new buyer.

Growth Move 01 · Picked a battleground
What changed: On 23 September 2026, Zoho launched Zia Chat, a single conversational AI interface across its business apps that extends to outside systems through MCP integrations and lets organisations choose their preferred AI models. The same day, Zoho announced its entry into vertical SaaS with 7 industry-specific applications spanning retail, automotive, BFSI, healthcare, education, real estate and restaurants, including Zoho RetailIQ, Zoho AutoDMS, the Zoho LOS loan origination system and MedScribe. Zoho POS for Restaurants is free for businesses billing up to Rs 12 lakh a year. Zoho’s India revenue grew 47% year on year in 2025. At launch, PTI reported that Zia Chat would be available for early access in a month, initially in English.
“There is an interface crisis, and people spend too much time searching for the right context and data.”Sridhar Vembu, Chief Scientist and Co-founder, Zoho
Why it is a Growth Move: Zoho added a new product category (vertical SaaS) and a new interface layer in one announcement. The industry apps give it specific reasons to win deals that a horizontal suite loses.
upGrowth takeaway: Horizontal breadth stops being a moat when buyers search by industry problem. If you sell to 3 or more industries, build one landing page and one demo per industry before you build another feature.

Growth Move 02 · Picked a battleground
What changed: On 14 May 2026, at its Refresh conference, Freshworks launched Freddy AI Agent Studio in Freshservice, a no-code studio for custom and pre-built AI agents, plus an MCP Gateway. At its analyst session the same day, Woodside said employee experience (EX) was 37% of the business at IPO and will be 60% of ARR by the end of 2026 and 70% by the end of 2028. He said customers could use the agents free until October, when AI agent sessions would be priced at USD 0.49 each, alongside a USD 29 a month Copilot add-on. Freshworks now expects 2028 revenue of more than USD 1.3 billion and expects Freshservice to end 2026 at USD 600 million in ARR.
“So, the first is, and this is important, we are an EX-first company. We are an EX-first company. We have a customer support business but our driving growth story is EX.”Dennis Woodside, CEO and President, Freshworks (Financial Analyst Session, 14 May 2026)
Why it is a Growth Move: Freshworks re-centred the company on its fastest-growing product line and added a usage-based AI revenue line on top of seats.
upGrowth takeaway: Look at which product line brings in your largest and stickiest customers, then say it out loud to the market. A clear “we are X-first” line makes every campaign, hire and roadmap call easier.

Growth Move 03 · Software that does the work
What changed: On 4 August 2026, Darwinbox launched Darwinbox Cortex from a New York dateline: an AI-native HCM platform rebuilt from the ground up rather than AI added to existing software. Cortex has 4 layers: a Signal Layer, a Context Graph, the Cortex Agent Platform with Forward Deployed Engineers, and an Experience Layer that works across Microsoft Teams, Copilot, Slack and Glean. It launched with pilot customers and design partners including Visteon and Transcarent. Darwinbox serves more than 1,400 enterprises and 4.5 million employees. Reworked notes the company did not say when Cortex would be generally available. Darwinbox moved to a co-CEO model on 20 July 2026, with co-founders Jayant Paleti and Chaitanya Peddi as Co-CEOs.
“Legacy HCM with AI bolted on is still legacy. With Cortex, we reimagined the entire HCM experience from the ground up and pushed the boundaries of what AI can do for HR through a series of innovations, including the first Context Graph in the category.”Jayant Paleti, Co-founder and Co-CEO, Darwinbox
Why it is a Growth Move: Darwinbox replaced its own core product rather than bolting AI onto it, and took the AI-native platform to the US market.
upGrowth takeaway: “AI-powered” is now table stakes in every RFP. If you rebuilt your architecture, name the new layer (Darwinbox named a Context Graph) so buyers and AI engines have a concrete thing to repeat.

Growth Move 04 · Software that does the work
What changed: On 3 March 2026, Rocketlane launched Nitro, which it calls the industry’s first agentic execution platform for professional services. AI agents inside project workflows complete repeatable billable tasks such as migrations, configurations, documentation and testing, and Rocketlane says Nitro can reduce delivery effort by up to 50%. On 25 March 2026 it announced a USD 60M Series C led by Insight Partners, taking total funding to USD 105M. Rocketlane says revenue more than doubled, average deal size has grown 4.5x since 2023, and it serves more than 750 customers.
“With Nitro, our goal is to give these heroes the superpowers they need to execute their work with radical efficiency and succeed in the Outcome Era, where AI is judged by work completed, risk avoided, and revenue protected,”Srikrishnan Ganesan, cofounder and CEO, Rocketlane (title at the time of the March 2026 announcement)
Why it is a Growth Move: Rocketlane moved from a tool that tracks client delivery to one that performs it, so it now sells against services headcount, not other project tools.
upGrowth takeaway: If your product sits next to billable human work, price and pitch on hours removed, not features added. “Up to 50% less delivery effort” is a line a CFO forwards.

Growth Move 05 · Software that does the work
What changed: On 21 March 2026, Sprinto launched its Autonomous Trust Platform, compliance infrastructure built around autonomous agents that monitor changes across systems, vendors, access and AI usage, and do the work needed to stay compliant, from refreshing evidence to vendor due diligence. On 14 April 2026 it opened a data centre in Australia and named local partners Digital Resilience, Kantanna and TerraEagle. Sprinto says it is trusted by 3,000+ companies across 75 countries and supports 200+ global standards.
“Compliance automation still needs someone at the wheel. That was the right model for the last decade, but it doesn’t scale into the next one,”Girish Redekar, Co-founder and CEO, Sprinto
Why it is a Growth Move: Sprinto changed what it sells (autonomous compliance, not automation) and added a new geography with local data residency within one month.
upGrowth takeaway: In regulated categories, data residency is a sales unlock, not an IT detail. If one region keeps stalling at security review, a local data centre can cost less than another year of lost deals.

Growth Move 06 · Software that does the work
What changed: On 9 June 2026, Atomicwork made its AI Workforce Platform generally available for enterprise IT, HR, Finance and Workplace teams. Organisations deploy AI Coworkers with a job role, a budget and scoped permissions, governed from one control plane with an audit trail for every action. In the launch release, Zuora’s CIO credits two years on the platform with 50% fewer tickets. In March 2026 Atomicwork also became available in the Microsoft Marketplace.
“The AI Workforce Platform gives enterprises a governed workforce of AI Coworkers: each one with a job role, a budget, scoped permissions and an audit trail. It’s not a better candle. It’s the lightbulb.”Vijay Rayapati, co-founder and CEO, Atomicwork
Why it is a Growth Move: Atomicwork repositioned from an AI-native service desk tool to a workforce of AI employees, a category that competes for budget with service desk headcount.
upGrowth takeaway: A strong metaphor travels further than a feature list. Test your category line with 10 buyers: if they can’t repeat it back a week later, it isn’t working.

Growth Move 07 · Software that does the work
What changed: In September 2026, Ema launched its HR, IT and Finance Hub: pre-trained AI Employees that complete routine work across the systems an enterprise already runs, from onboarding and payroll to access and identity requests. At Wipro, Ema powers an employee assistant that automates over 100 workflows across payroll, benefits, timesheets and procurement, supports about 2.9 million employee queries a year and has increased employee satisfaction by 20%. On 23 September 2026 Ema announced a USD 77M Series B led by Creaegis, taking total funding to USD 140M.
“Enterprise software promised to make work easier, but somewhere along the way, the software became the work.”Surojit Chatterjee, CEO and co-founder, Ema
Why it is a Growth Move: Ema packaged its platform into ready-to-hire, department-specific products, which cuts time to value from a build project to a sign-up.
upGrowth takeaway: Buyers purchase by department, so package by department. A platform sold as an “HR Hub” gets into a CHRO’s budget faster than one sold as “agentic AI”.

Growth Move 08 · Software that does the work
What changed: On 11 February 2026, Facilio launched Facilio Atom, an autonomous AI agent suite for facilities management covering helpdesk dispatch, compliance automation, and finance and control. The agents layer on top of existing CMMS, ERP and finance systems without rip-and-replace projects, and Facilio says they automate up to 40% of repetitive work. At a large multinational FM service provider in the UAE, one customer support line became fully autonomous within days of going live.
“AI is moving from analysis to action, shifting work from being human-driven to system-driven. Facilities management is one of the last large operational domains still reliant on manual coordination.”Prabhu Ramachandran, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder, Facilio Inc.
Why it is a Growth Move: Facilio made its agents deployable on top of other vendors’ systems, which opens customers who will never replace their CMMS.
upGrowth takeaway: “Works on top of what you already have” removes the biggest objection in enterprise sales. If your AI layer can run on a rival’s stack, market it to the rival’s installed base.

Growth Move 09 · Bought, not built
What changed: On 8 January 2026, Postman acquired Fern, which builds tools for API documentation and production-ready SDKs. Since launching in 2022, Fern has grown into a team of 25 and works with more than 200 customers, including Square, Auth0, Adobe, Twilio and ElevenLabs. Through Postman, Fern can reach more than 500,000 companies, including 98% of the Fortune 500.
“Fern shares our belief that documentation and SDKs are critical to API adoption. By bringing Fern into the Postman family, we’re helping more teams deliver APIs that developers love to use.”Abhinav Asthana, CEO and co-founder, Postman (via SD Times)
Why it is a Growth Move: Postman extended from building and testing APIs into the step where APIs get adopted, which deepens its value to every company that publishes one.
upGrowth takeaway: Look one step past where your product ends in the customer’s workflow. That next step is the most natural acquisition or launch, because your users already need it.

Growth Move 10 · Bought, not built
What changed: On 23 June 2026, MoEngage acquired San Francisco-headquartered Aampe, which gives each of a brand’s customers a dedicated AI agent. Aampe runs hundreds of millions of dedicated AI agents and makes more than 200 billion decisions every week for brands including ZenBusiness, Taxfix, Grab and Swiggy. Aampe’s founders join MoEngage to lead Agentic Decisioning. Terms were not disclosed. MoEngage is trusted by over 1,350 consumer brands.
“Every marketer wants to show up at the right moment, with the right message, for every individual user. The gap isn’t ambition, it’s infrastructure.”Raviteja Dodda, Co-founder and CEO, MoEngage
Why it is a Growth Move: MoEngage bought the decisioning layer that sits above its campaign tools, moving from helping marketers build segments to deciding for each user.
upGrowth takeaway: Segments are becoming a legacy concept in lifecycle marketing. If your CRM programme still runs on 20 static segments, run one channel on per-user decisioning against a holdout and compare revenue.

Growth Move 11 · Bought, not built
What changed: On 24 June 2026, TrueFoundry acquired Seldon AI, an MLOps company founded in 2014 and headquartered in the UK, whose customers include leading financial institutions, healthcare and retail enterprises. TrueFoundry’s AI Gateway becomes the control plane above Seldon’s model serving, giving Seldon customers a path to agentic AI on the Kubernetes infrastructure they already run. TrueFoundry processes over 1 trillion tokens a day through its AI Gateway. Financial details were not disclosed.
“Enterprise AI teams are running traditional ML and agentic workflows side by side and managing them as two separate infrastructure problems,”Nikunj Bajaj, Co-Founder and CEO, TrueFoundry
Why it is a Growth Move: A Series A company bought an older, established company’s customer base and turned it into an upsell path for its own gateway.
upGrowth takeaway: Small companies can acquire too. If a mature player in your space has strong customers and slowing product momentum, its installed base may be cheaper to buy than to win one logo at a time.

Growth Move 12 · Bought, not built
What changed: On 9 July 2026, NuPlay AI (then Nurix AI) acquired Verloop.io, an enterprise conversational AI company founded by Gaurav Singh in 2015. The deal adds chat automation and a regional customer base to its voice AI platform for businesses in India and the Middle East. Verloop.io says it powers more than 20 million customer interactions every month. Terms were not disclosed. On 3 August 2026 Nurix AI rebranded as NuPlay AI and set a target of 4x growth over the next 2 years.
“Acquiring Verloop.io strengthens our ability to help enterprises move from experimentation to measurable ROI.”Mukesh Bansal, founder and CEO, Nurix AI, now NuPlay AI
Why it is a Growth Move: A company founded in 2024 bought a 2015 company’s channel coverage and customers, then renamed itself after its strongest product.
upGrowth takeaway: If customers already call you by your product’s name, the market has chosen your brand for you. Renaming costs less than fighting that recall in every sales call.

Growth Move 13 · New surfaces and markets
What changed: On 17 February 2026, Emergent launched a mobile app for iOS and Android. Users can speak an idea into the app, which builds a working app and publishes it directly to the App Store and Google Play. Emergent said its ARR doubled from USD 50 million to USD 100 million in one month, eight months after launch, with more than 6 million builders across 190+ countries. TechCrunch reports about 150,000 paying customers, that about 70% of users have no prior coding experience, and that the app was still in testing at launch, with more than 10,000 apps already built on it. In July 2026 Emergent raised USD 130 Mn at a USD 1.5 Bn valuation.
“We wanted to make sure creativity never stops. Now you can speak your idea into Emergent’s mobile app and our AI turns it into a real, working app in minutes.”Mukund Jha, Co-founder and CEO, Emergent
Why it is a Growth Move: Emergent moved software creation onto the phone, where its non-technical users already are, and made voice a building interface.
upGrowth takeaway: If 70% of your users aren’t technical, your product belongs where they spend their day. Check what share of your signups start on mobile and whether your product can finish the job there.

Growth Move 14 · New surfaces and markets
What changed: On 11 February 2026, Exotel launched Harmony in the Middle East, an AI-powered, human-assisted CX orchestration platform for enterprises in markets such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Harmony brings conversations, behavioural signals and customer memory into one orchestration layer, with human agents supervising AI-led interactions. Exotel says it enables up to 60% automation. Globally, Exotel powers over 25 billion customer interactions a year for more than 7,000 enterprises. On 8 April 2026 Exotel acqui-hired the Dubverse team to strengthen its AI-led CX offerings.
“Harmony represents the evolution from isolated automation to intelligent orchestration,”Sachin Bhatia, Co-Founder and Chief Growth Officer, Exotel (title at the time of the February 2026 launch)
Why it is a Growth Move: Exotel took a new agentic product into a new region, leading with a supervised offer rather than pure automation.
upGrowth takeaway: GCC buyers want AI with a human in the loop and local compliance spelled out. If you are entering the region, put supervision and data residency on the first slide, not the last.

The biggest SaaS growth moves of 2026 changed what the product does and who it competes with. For a Series A to C company, that points to four practical checks.
We are researching the next editions now, starting with D2C brands. If your company made a growth move in 2026 that changed how it grows, tell us what changed, when, and where it is documented. Write to [email protected] with the subject line “Growth Moves nomination”.
A growth move is a dated, documented change that alters how a company acquires, monetises, retains or serves customers. It can be a new capability, product, market, category or distribution channel. Funding rounds, hires and awards on their own do not count.
Four patterns stand out from January to September 2026: platforms narrowing their story, products that do work rather than track it, capability bought through acquisitions, and expansion onto new surfaces and into new markets.
Agentic SaaS uses AI agents that complete tasks inside a workflow, such as running a migration or refreshing compliance evidence, instead of only recording or reporting on work that people still have to do.
Postman bought Fern in January, MoEngage bought Aampe and TrueFoundry bought Seldon AI in June, and Nurix AI, now NuPlay AI, bought Verloop.io in July. Exotel acqui-hired the Dubverse team in April.
Freshworks said AI agent sessions would be priced at USD 0.49 per session from October 2026, alongside a USD 29 a month Copilot add-on. Usage-based pricing is now sitting alongside seat licences for AI features.
Each move had to be announced between January and September 2026, documented in a primary or reputable source, and credited to a named leader in that source. Funding rounds alone did not count. No company paid for inclusion.
